Classic Hepplewhite elbow chair
More robust than usual Hepplewhite shield back chairs, this antique model embodies all the styles made popular by the Prince of Wales.
It has the considerable advantage of cross stretchers between the legs for added stability and durability.
The strongly arched shield back is supported by crisply carved splats of leaves and inverted wheat ears headed by three leaves in the same shape as the more usual plumes of the Prince of Wales.
Every nuance of the hand carving on the original has been replicated by our master craftsmen.
The Classic Hepplewhite Elbow chair features the shield back shape typical of the patterns illustrated in George Hepplewhite’s pattern book. “The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Guide“, published in London in 1794.
The side chair to match is model CH-B. It also features the same crisply carved splats of leaves, swags and wheat ears.
