About us

The Classic Chair Company

From the modest start in the antiques business in 1957, dealing exclusively in originals from the Golden Age of Cabinet making (1760-1835), The Classic Chair Company has grown to the international and well known producer of the impressive quality furniture illustrated in this catalogue. This development was a direct result of the need for replacements for the scarce and increasingly expensive original pieces, particularly long sets of chairs.

Makers of some of the world’s finest furniture

All the furniture is historically accurate in style and construction, and beautifully finished with painstaking attention to detail: believable, honestly made furniture to the very best of standards, made to allow the luxury, style and elegance of a bygone era affordable to all today.

The founder and chairman, Paul Kenny, has a very long experience and encyclopaedic knowledge of Fine Furniture and the periods to which the many examples he has bought, sold and restored belong. His involvement with the company today is very “hands-on” as he oversees every aspect of the production, from the initial selection of the pieces and the fine cabinet woods through to the careful final wax polishing.

Whilst at first glance wooden furniture may not seem inherently environmentally friendly, Classic Chairs solid hardwood furniture is so durable that the reduction in the use of natural resources compared to furniture made from veneered or compressed chipped sheet board is vast. Where whole forests are used for cheap mass production of short life span domestic furniture, with associated global transport and energy disadvantages, The Classic Chair Company uses locally sourced timbers from Government managed and controlled sustainable and renewable forests. With no need for lengthy transport of raw production materials, combined with the largely hand worked processes, Classic Chairs has been able to cut the use of carbon-hungry energy very substantially.

Classic Chairs furniture has been used in National Trust and Historic House Museums and Associations around the world, Grade I listed buildings and public monuments, significant historic interiors, palaces and Presidential offices, … anywhere and everywhere that exceptional quality and Classic style are desired, Clients include leading designers, many Royal families and even the Historic Drama film industry.

Having completed much project work in many countries and diverse applications, The Classic Chair Company is always delighted to provide quotations for this work.
